Hangang (Han River) The Hangang River is the most important physical landmark in the city, dividing the north and south. Lined with parks and recreational facilities on both banks, it’s the perfect place to rent bikes, go on cruise up the river, enjoy bird-watching, or splash around and cool off in public swimming pools during the summer months. Banpo Bridge Banpodaegyo Bridge is a two-tiered bridge over the Han River. Its lower level, called Jamsugyo (Submergence Bridge), is designed to be below water during the rainy season. In 2009, Seoul Metropolitan Government added the Moonlight Rainbow Fountain to the Banpodaegyo, creating the world's longest bridge fountain (as recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records) with 380 water jets and a dazzling array of multicolored lights. The Moonlight Rainbow Fountain's water jets are dynamic and can move in time to music creating spectacular ever-changing displays. Add to that the hundreds of rainbow-colored lighting combinations when night falls, and it is easy to see why Banpodaegyo is a magnet for tourists year-round. The Moonlight Rainbow Fountain operates daily from April to October, with each show lasting 20 minutes. In addition, the Banpo Hangang Park hosts the "Moonlight Square Cultural Weekend" event every Saturday from 7 - 8:30 p.m. from May to October, featuring a variety of musical styles including classical music with commentary, a cappella, jazz, brass bands and orchestras.
